PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
